HCR-CTRO participated on the Ukraine Mine Action Conference UMAC 2025 held in Tokyo
Tokyo hosted the third consecutive donor conference for humanitarian demining of Ukraine, which was called Ukraine Mine Action Conference-UMAC 2025, and was held in the period from October 22 to 23, 2025, jointly organized by Japan and Ukraine.
The conference in Tokyo is a continuation of the first donor conference held in October 2023 in Zagreb, which was designed as a platform for the joint and coordinated mobilization of resources for Ukraine's recovery efforts, starting with humanitarian demining, as a prerequisite for the country's further economic recovery.
The Croatian delegation was led by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Grlić Radman, who has underlined that, following victory in the Homeland War, Croatia built an effective and modern mine action system, whose greatest strength lies in the professionalism and experience of highly trained experts capable of transferring unique national knowledge to countries in need of such assistance.
He emphasized that Croatia, fully aware of the scale of the threat Ukraine faces, has since the beginning of the Russian aggression provided comprehensive support, including assistance in various segments of mine action - from humanitarian demining and institutional capacity building to mine-risk education and victim assistance - totalling more than 13 million euros.
The Croatian delegation, headed by the Minister Radman, included among others representatives of the Ministry of the Foreign and European Affairs, the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Japan, Dražen Hrastić, as well as Davor Laura representing the Civil Protection Directorate and the Croatian Mine Action Centre (HCR).
At the conference, the HCR-CTRO was represented by the Managing Director Katarina Markt and Deputy Managing Director Željka Krhač.
During the conference, Managing Director Markt and Deputy Director Krhač held several bilateral meetings with Ukranian colleagues aimed at further deepening cooperation in the field of knowledge transfer and continuing collaboration in mine action.
Among other, the fourth Conference on Humanitarian Demining in Ukraine was announced, to be held in Brussels in 2026.
