From 18th to 29th October 2015, HCR-CTRO conducted the second stage of the project “Mine Action – Education of Syrian Refugees in Refugee Camps“, financed by the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs from the development assistance programme. The training was conducted in cooperation with the Jordanian Nacional Centre for Demining and Rehabilitation (NCDR) in the town of Mafraq, for forty trainees from the refugee camp in that town in Jordan. It was a train-the-trainer course on mine risk education (MRE). The trainees are now qualified to transfer the mine risk awareness messages and knowledge to the Syrian population upon their return to Syria. In the second stage of the project, as in the first one, there were 40 trainees in two groups of 20.

From 22nd to 28th October, at the Cerovac test site, HCR-CTRO conducted testing and certification of a new demining machine, Tornado GX 500, owned by Tornado razminiranje j.d.o.o.o. The machine was made from the forest machine Galotrax 500. It has a tiller as a working tool and it is operated from the cab. The machine is classified as a heavy machine. After certification, the machine is ready to be used on a demining project.

As part of the Project TIRAMISU – Implementation of Tools for Removal of Mines, Submunitions and Unexploded Ordnance, financed by the European Commission within the FP7 Programme, on 22nd and 23rd October HCR-CTRO conducted validation of a computer game developed by the partners from the Institute of Mathematical Machines from Warsow, Poland. The purpose of the game is to educate children on dangers of mines.
The validation was conducted in two elementary schools, in Dragutina Tadijanovića School in the town of Moscenica, which is situated close to suspected hazardous areas, and in Mladost School in the town of Lekenik, situated in the safe area.
The target group were the pupils in grades 5-8, and the aim was to establish usefulness and applicability of the game in mine risk education for the purpose of using it, with specific adjustments, all over the world.

On 24th September 2015, at SEDEE-DOVO, Belgian military training center, a presentation was held of the tools developed as part of the TIRAMISU Project, financed in the framework of the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union.

HCR-CTRO is among 26 Project partners, responsible for methodology and coordination of validation. Milan Bajić PhD., presented results of the company on the following tasks: coordination of operative validation of the tools in cooperation with CROMAC, development of the method of training honeybees for detection of minefields, hyperspectral non-technical and technical surveys, and the method of non-technical survey of the area after an explosion of an ammunition depot.

The demonstration was attended by representatives of the European Union, Belgian army, countries of the project partners, as well as of the scientific community, led by the Belgian princes Astrid, Special Envoy of the Ottawa Convention. The princess shown special interest in the method of detection of minefields with honeybees, as well as the Project evaluators.

HCR-CTRO conducted an EOD Level 1 training course in Zagreb, from 15th June to 3rd July. There were nine trainees from Serbia and Monte Negro and eight of them have passed the knowledge exam in front of the Examination Board and were awarded certificates of completion qualifying them in line with IMAS.

In addition to HCR-CTRO Director, Mr. Nikola Pavković, the ceremony of awarding the certificates was attended by CROMAC Director, Mr. Dražen Jakopec, Director of the Serbian MAC, Mr. Branislav Jovanović and his deputy Mr. Dragan Jovanović, then Head of the Operations Department of the Ministry of Interior of Monte Negro and Ms. Jenny Oštarić Vunjak, representative of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

The trainees have commended the training course and were satisfied with the knowledge gained. They expressed their interest in organizing the 2nd level training course.
