As part of the 15th International Symposium “Mine Action 2018”, HCR-CTRO hosted a visit of a delegation of the Republic of Colombia consisting of Mr Enriqe Cabrales Baquero, member of the House of the Representatives of the Colombian Parliament from the Democratic Centre party; Mr Oscar Javier Urquijo Cabrera, senior advisor of the 31st President of the Republic of Colombia Mr. Alvaro Uribe Velez; Mr Mauricio Restrepo Gomez, President of the Board of RGcomercial S.A., accompanied by his wife Mrs Liina Villamizar Vasquez; and Mr Alberto Enrique De Vivero Amador, president of the Managing Board of the humanitarian demining foundation FUNHDES.

A team of scientists working on a NATO SPS project Biological method (bees) for Explosive Detection conducted project activities at the Benkovac test site from 13th to 16th April. The team consisted of Ross Gillanders, PhD and James Glackin, PhD from the University of St Andrews, Prof Janja Filipi from the University of Zadar and Prof Nikola Kezic. The field trials included the passive sampling of honeybee hive entrances and the air inside the beehives, as well as the air sampling of contaminated lanes.

These samples will be tested in Scotland at the Organic Semiconductor Centre, with their luminescent explosives-sensitive sensors.

From 9th to 12th April, the 15th International Symposium Mine Action 2018 was held in the town of Slano near Dubrovnik. It gathered over 170 participants from 31 countries from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. The symposium was organized by the Office for Mine Action, Croatian Mine Action Centre and HCR-CTRO, under the high patronage of the president of the Republic of Croatia. Bosnia and Herzegovina was the partner Country. The Symposium was opened by Davor Božinović, Minister of the Interior and the envoy of the President of the Croatian Government.

From 29th January to 1st February, OSCE PCU Ukraine organized a visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the Republic of Croatia. The delegation consisted of parliament members involved in development and passing of the Law on Mine Action, representatives of state agencies and donors of the OSCE PCU Project „Mine Action Capacity Building in Ukraine“.Establishment of a mine action system and legal framework for establishment of a national mine action centre are among the project goals, and the Republic of Croatia was chosen for this visit as a country with a long-standing experience in demining and a well-developed system of implementation of mine action with rules and regulations and legislature in place.

The Government Office for Mine Action, Croatian Mine Action Centre and Croatian Mine Action Centre - Centre for Testing, Development and Training have the pleasure to invite you to the 15th International Symposium Mine Action 2018, which is to be held in the town of Slano near Dubrovnik, from 9th to 12th April 2018. The Symposium will be held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic of Croatia.
